We celebrate stories, well told. We cherish stories and storytellers. Whether the stories entertain, educate, document or move us, what they reveal is an essential part of knowing who we are as a community, as a society and as a civilization. In the end, the generations to come will know us by the stories we told.
In the coming year, Focus on the Story is transitioning from a private project to a non-profit organization committed to using the power of photography to spark discussion around the important issues of our day. Located in the nation’s capital, Focus on the Story supports and encourages photographers of diverse backgrounds to explore visual storytelling’s critical role documenting the world around us and its ability to spur social change.
Originally started in 2016 as a website showcasing visual storytelling, Focus on the Story has grown into a multi-faceted photography brand. Focus on the Story has run five photography workshops in Cuba, published two photo books – UnPresidented (2017) and Chasing the Great American Eclipse (2018) – and is currently organizing the Focus on the Story International Photo Festival, June 7 – 10 in Washington, D.C.
If you have a personal project or images that tell a story, let us know.
